Wheat...West coast white wheat markets held ground against a declining
Chicago board in early-week trading, as an upcoming CCC donation for Yemen
and Bangladesh supported old crop bids. Old crop basis firmed back to 100+
over Chicago July, while new crop held about 65 over September. Spot bids
on both hard red winter and red spring also saw firmer basis levels versus
softer futures.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections revealed a late-season marketing
year low for wheat movement off the west coast. Soft white wheat recorded
just 54,000 bushels in export loadings, while hard red spring registered a
total of 2.8 mb off all ports with 1.9 mb loading from the west coast.
Crop Progress...Winter wheat conditions across the PNW slipped slightly
lower again over the past week. Good to excellent ratings for WA dropped
4 points to 56%; OR last 3 points to 43% and ID dropped 1% to 81%. Spring
wheat plantings saw 24% of the crop put in last week to put plantings at
67% complete versus 76% average. ND planted 24% of the crop and stands at
50% done while MN put in 52% of the crop and is now 71% complete.
